Positive Thoughts, Positive Effects

The Rice experiment

We have always heard people say that positive words can bring out the best potentials of a person. We see encouragements as something that can affect us emotionally which may therefore push us to do better in our activities. We take these “positive thinking” into a more emotional light and fail to conceive it as something that may actually affect the physical world. However, a recent scientific experiment has proven that good words affect the physical world around us.

Dr. Masaru Emoto, a researcher and alternative healer from Japan had performed an experiment which has given us evidence to the idea that positive thinking has its magic. “ His experiments demonstrate that human thoughts and intentions can alter physical reality, such as the molecular structure of water.”

The rice experiment is another famous Emoto demonstration of the power of negative thinking (and conversely, the power of positive thinking.) Dr Emoto placed portions of cooked rice into two containers. On one container he wrote “thank you” and on the other “you fool”. He then instructed school children to say the labels on the jars out loud everyday when they passed them by. After 30 days, the rice in the container with positive thoughts had barely changed, while the other was moldy and rotten.

This experiment shows us the effect of the things we say and do. Of course, it wasn’t simply because of the words “thank you” and “you fool” that changed the way the rice reacted; it was the meaning behind the words and the energy that they gave as they spoke these words. Often times, we settle ourselves to thinking negative thoughts. We find it hard to cling on the positive side when things get rough. However, we must not act this way. The things that happen to us are affected not just by our circumstances but also by the way we react on these situations. Positive thoughts can push us to go beyond and strive to turn the unfortunate circumstances to successful ones. If rice is affected by the energy positive thinking gives, I believe there is no doubt that we, humans, who have emotions, will also be greatly affected by the thoughts we have. We have the ability to choose between looking at the bright side or looking at the dark side, but I hope you choose the former. I hope this experiment has given us the inspiration to see the world on a more positive note. Don’t be a moldy rice! Think Positive!
